MACKEYVILLE — The Clinton County Historical Society hit a home run Saturday as more than 700 people — one of the largest crowds ever — turned out for the Wine in the Wilds wine tasting festival. Held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in Mackeyville, the Historical Society fundraiser brought together 14 wineries and distilleries from across the region.
“It was all with us” said Bonnie Hannis, CCHS President and event organizer. “The weather was nice and people were very patient queuing to taste wine. It was really just a nice event and very good for the Historical Society.
The festival is always popular with groups of friends and family, who gather and move from booth to booth to taste each winery’s trial wine and then shop their favorites. In addition to wineries, there were plenty of other vendors, offering everything from foods and dressings that pair well with wine, to wine glasses, crafts, and other items. The Clinton County Fair and several food trucks offered food for sale, and the event also featured live music and even a street magician who moved around the venue to delight wine tasters with his tricks.
Volunteers from the Clinton County Historical Society participated in the event, with significant support from several other community groups, including the Lock Haven University women’s field hockey team, which provided set-up assistance and disassembly. A group from the Clinton County Leadership Program coordinated a concierge zone, which involved working with each winery to pick up purchased items and stage them for people to pick up at the end of the festival. Volunteers from Davis Real Estate coordinated door prize draws, while representatives from SWC Realty provided a photo booth.
“It takes more than board members and volunteers from the Historical Society to make this happen,” said Hannis, who expressed his thanks to all Wine in the Wilds sponsors, supporters and volunteers.
