Evil Dead: The Game features thirteen playable survivors across four classes – and only around a third of them are versions of Ash! Characters of the same class play the same, but their unique action ability and traits when leveling up can make all the difference in the world.
If you haven’t picked a character that’s best for you yet, take a look at this list to see which ones have the most to offer during a match. Lower ranked characters can be effective for the right player, but generally the easier it is to win with a character, the higher their rank will be.
13 Kelly Maxwell – Hunter
We really wanted to give the Michigander in the mouth a chance to shine, but its underwhelming capabilities just don’t measure up. Her action ability is decent, allowing her to dodge without expending stamina and causing her ranged attacks to apply bleed effects, but the upgrade doesn’t do much for her.
Kelly specializes in melee with the Meat Hammer, but there are enough better weapons out there that unless she finds an Epic or Legendary, she’d better stick with something else. His Countershot requires being able to effectively dodge and retaliate, which isn’t always easy to do. Battle Frenzy, which increases her melee damage the longer she is in combatis an interesting power, but giving it to a hunter – a class that focuses on ranged attacks – is an odd choice.
12 Scotty – Warrior
Scotty is a good warrior, but the other survivors in his class do better. With a two-handed weapon, it can deal impressive damage, especially when unlocked Weapons Master: Lumberjack’s Ax who buffs the the most powerful melee weapon in the game…but that’s about all it has going for it. Its AoE attack is nice, but there are plenty of other ways to kill baddies in Evil Dead: The Game. Besides being a solid damage dealer, Scotty adds nothing to the team.
11 Pablo Simon Bolivar – Support
Pablo has several interesting abilities centered around amulets and shields, but he needs to have the right team to be effective. It works well in a group of warriors who can get the most out of their amulets, but otherwise the Support slot is best filled with Ash or Cheryl.
If you are building a team around Pablo, know that he is the character who most able to be alone safely. His hellish camouflage ability makes it hard for the demon to find him – just keep your fear under control until you can join the party.
ten Ash Williams (Evil Dead 2) – Hunter
Until he reaches the level where he starts the match with a Double-Barrel, Ash’s Hunter character is extremely situational. Her exorcism ability can make all the difference against the puppeteer, but against the warlord or necromancer, it won’t do much if the demon refrains from possessing her.
Still, having Exorcism available when a teammate is under demonic influence can save a match, so if you don’t mind losing other better action abilities, Ash’s later perks eventually make up for it.
9 Ash Williams (Army of Darkness) – Warrior
As a Warrior, Ash is one of the characters who can best benefit from Pablo’s presence – in fact, without his mustachioed pal, Ash needs a bit of luck to maximize his powers. Ash wants to have lots of shieldsso it’s important to get him amulets to the point where he could take resources from other players.
Ash’s status as a one-man army is boosted when he uses his action ability, drinking a sage potion to heal and recover fear while gaining a temporary defensive buff. If he was more of a team player, Army Of Darkness Ash would rank higher on this list.
8 Ed Getley – Hunter
Ed can be very useful to have on the team, but it’s not because of his fighting abilities. He not only excels at finding items, eventually gaining the ability to increase drop rates, but he is also the sole survivor able to detect the traps.
He can even temporarily disarm any traps he discovers, potentially robbing the demon of large amounts of threat over the course of a match.
7 Henry the Red – Warrior
This medieval time traveler is the game best warrior, dealing heavy damage while taking hits like a champ. He is the hardest survivor to kill, largely due to his action ability which grants him temporary invulnerability.
If Henry is on your team, load him up with amulets and the best melee weapon you can find. The Deadites will be for a tough knight.
6 Annie Knowby – Chef
Annie is a great addition to any team, but she really shines when surrounded by trigger-happy hunters. She grants nearby survivors increased damage from their ranged attacksmaking characters like Amanda exceptionally dangerous to the forces of evil.
After making some progress, Annie also improves her team’s ability to unbalance enemies, prepare them for the finishers. At this point, it can be the centerpiece of almost any party build.
5 Ash Williams (Evil Dead) – Support
The original Ash is just beginning to realize his potential as an unflappable demon slayer, and he’s a much better contributor to the team than his character from later films. ash can reduce the fear of all nearby survivorsdepriving the demon of possession targets and ensuring the safety of the group.
As he levels up, Ash becomes an effective fighting machine, healing himself and granting buffs simply by fighting. If you are an Ash Support principal, consider playing with a microphone so you can call shots to your teammates – a Deadite hit by a headshot from a high level Ash takes more damage from the next ranged attack they take, allowing you to set up elites and bosses for easier kills.
4 Cheryl Williams – Support
Always protect the healer. In the case of Evil Dead: The Game, Ash’s lowly sister is the party cleric. She can create a brief regeneration field, and as she levels up she grants healing and buffs to nearby allies whenever she drinks a Shemp’s Cola.
Cheryl isn’t a great fighter, but her ability to keep her teammates alive is second to none. Keep her safe and it will allow the team to operate at full strength.
3 Amanda Fisher – Hunter
This no-frills state trooper is hands down the best character for ranged combat in the entire game. Right off the bat, she starts every match with a gun. Although the guns aren’t particularly powerful, in Amanda’s hands they can be deadly. Alternatively, she can swap it out for something with more punch if the opportunity arises.
If you decide to drop the gun, try to choose a weapon with a fast rate of fire, leaving the shotguns for other characters. Amanda’s action ability allows her shoot without consuming ammo for a short time, so the more bullets you can fire during that time, the better. Once she has unlocked all of her unique passives, his shots deal more damage with each consecutive hit – when a boss appears, empty a clip on it, reload it and start again.
2 Ash Williams (Ash Vs Evil Dead) – Chief
The latest iteration of Ash, a veteran monster slayer forming the next generation, puts all of his experience to good use. His mere presence reduces the overall fear suffered by other survivors, and also increases the damage they inflict against evil forces.
Even better, once Ash spends a few skill points, he start every match with his signature chainsaw, eliminating the need to find a different melee weapon for him. The chainsaw is strong enough to last the whole game – unless, of course, you’re lucky enough to find a chainsaw even better.
1 Lord Arthur – Chief
Lord Arthur just isn’t kidding. He grants huge melee damage buffs to himself and all survivors near him, especially when his Wrath of the Lord ability is activated. With at least one warrior by his side, Lord Arthur is more than a match for all but the most powerful Kandarian demons.
A high-level Arthur is truly a sight to behold on the battlefield. He combines incredibly well with Annie, since his last passive allows him grants the effects of the Lord’s Wrath without triggering the ability each time he removes a finisher. If you want someone to lead the battle against darkness, Lord Arthur is the one for you.
