- Costume Quest, October 16-31 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One
Here’s Microsoft’s official trailer:
Well, there’s an obvious theme for the month of October, so let’s dive into it!
Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cup is the first in this month’s deals. It is a puzzle game with over 300 puzzles to play. You play as Skullface, whose goal is to terrorize camp counselors and anyone else he meets. If you are a fan of old school horror movies, this one will really resonate with you. And if you’re someone who wants to play themed games for October, that’s fine too.
Then is Maid of Sker. A first-person survival horror game, it has very mixed reviews. The story is nothing fancy, it goes exactly where you expect it to be, and there are a lot of audio issues to contend with. A cool thing is Is To do is link the audio logs to record points so that you don’t miss any intriguing detail of the story. This game is definitely a resident Evil lean, but not necessarily in a good way.
For 360 games this month we have Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, an action-adventure game in the same vein as THE Legend of Zelda. You get fun fights and plenty of puzzles to solve, all in an early 2000s package. Yes, it’s very dated, but if you can look past it, it’s still a fun time.
Finally we have Costume Quest, a fun turn-based RPG from Double Fine. It’s Halloween night and you go out with your twin, who is then kidnapped by a monster. Your goal is to knock on all doors to collect new items for your outfit and then get other kids to help you face the monster and save your brother. It’s certainly not something super fancy, but it might be the closest we’ve got to a real trick or treatment this year.
Remember, you can always download any of the September deals (The unwritten rulebook 2) until October 14!
