Golf hotels aren’t usually synonymous with sleek design, but that’s what you get at the four-star Hotel Terraverda on Spain’s Costa Brava, which recently won ‘Best Interior Design Project in Spain’. ‘hotel 2021’ at the Interihotel Awards.
Two 18-hole golf courses are the main draw, of course, but those allergic to putting can simply take advantage of the minimalist but warm interiors and newly installed swimming pool, or even head to the local Mas Geli winery, take part in an olive oil tasting or visit the nearby medieval villages of Pals and Palau-sator, while the beach is only a five-minute drive away. The nearest airports are in Girona. Stays from €166. hotelterraverda.com
Move over Santiago de Compost ela – there is a new pilgrimage in town. This one, however – on Prince Edward Island, off the east coast of Canada – has a gastronomical bent rather than a spiritual one. It is a 700 km loop walking trail in 32 sections that follows the perimeter of the island and joins the points of lobster shacks, oyster bars, poutine possibilities, accommodations, a museum of the potato (yes, really), exquisite landscapes and even the fictional house of Anne of Green Gables. Grades are no more than 2pc, so you don’t need to be an Olympian, and there’s a bike path too. theislandwalk.ca
