BRIDGEWATER – “Save the ice! “
That was the goal of a GoFundMe page that raised over $ 13,000 to help a beloved Somerset County ice cream parlor replace a broken freezer.
A regular customer of Gabriel’s Fountain Kitchen and Creamery in the Martinsville section opened the fundraising page after noticing on the store’s Instagram that their ice cream freezer was broken and that they were keeping the treats cool with dry ice.
The customer identified only as Kristen said that because 2020 was a terrible year for most local businesses, it would be nice if everyone could participate and help Gabriel’s owners get a new freezer to “save the ice cream”.
Summer is the peak season for ice cream sales and since this company has done so much to help the community during COVID, it would be great to return the favor, she said.
“Having to shell out money for new equipment shouldn’t hurt them any more! Let’s make it easy for them. “
This message touched a lot of people because as of Wednesday morning $ 13,345 has been raised so far to help Gabriel buy a new freezer.
The local ice cream shop is delighted with all the support.
“We want to thank the community for their tremendous support! $ 13,000 is just ridiculous! It makes me feel like Sally Field won the Oscar, “You love us! You really love us! An owner said on the store’s Facebook page.
They said that while they appreciated the money, they still needed time to figure out how to appropriate the funds. They can’t just run into a store and buy a new freezer because commercial equipment works differently, especially in these times of low supply and high demand. A new freezer means multiple contractors, more planning, and personalized carpentry.
So for now, temporary repairs are being made to keep the ice cream as fresh as possible and available to customers.
