Thiruvananthapuram: Popular magician Gopinath Muthukad has announced that he will no longer do professional magic shows.

Muthukad explained that he was ending his professional career to work for the Different Arts Center, an initiative launched for children with disabilities at Magic Planet in Kazhakoottam. He would work to bring it up to university standards.

Muthukad bids farewell to his professional life of four and a half decades. He decided not to organize shows for remuneration. But he would continue to be a magician because he will teach disabled children.

Muthukad said he became aware of the hardships and isolation these children and their families face when he visited the 14 districts in 2016, as part of Malayala Manorama Nallapadam’s “Ardra Keralam” – an initiative for the well-being of children with disabilities.

Subsequently, he formed a magical team called MPower for disabled children and this later became the Different Arts Center. About a hundred children learn the arts in this center.

“I envisioned various projects such as a universal empowerment center for disabled children, sports centers, a free therapy center, a research laboratory, vocational training for the mothers of these children, a museum for children with disabilities. children’s creative works and special theaters, “he explained.

My dream project is getting stronger thanks to the support given by Keralites from various parts of the globe and by the government, added Muthukad.
