Shirt numbers confirmed for 2022/23

Antonio Conte is building a Tottenham side capable of competing on multiple fronts as the club prepare to return to the Champions League in 2022/23.

Spurs made a string of new signings – including Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic – while some fringe players were moved on, such as Steven Bergwijn.

While there are plenty available, the most realistic ones a new first-team signing could take are…

As long as it’s unique within their team, Premier League players can wear any number between one and 99, although tradition has it that you’ll usually see first teams wearing one at around 30 – a few exceptions.

Man City youngster Cole Palmer holds the record for the highest number in Premier League history, with the number 80.

Also according to tradition, goalkeepers will usually occupy numbers one and 13.

Premier League players can’t wear number zero – and that’s fair enough because that would be a bit silly.

Premier League players are only allowed to change their squad number during pre-season or if one is sold or loaned to another club in the January transfer window.

Clubs must submit their confirmed squad list – including shirt numbers – by a specified deadline each year, and the numbers cannot be changed thereafter. In 2021, this deadline was September 1.
