Tottenham Hotspur have an interest in Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to Portuguese media Record.
Interest in the 25-year-old has reportedly increased after his second performance for Portugal against France in the Group F clash at Euro 2020 with Everton, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla also monitoring his situation.
Sevilla and Atletico have admired Palhinha for some time, however, the report claims if they would be able to meet Sporting’s assessment.
Atletico are not prepared to pay fees above 25million euros (£ 21.4million), while Sevilla have to sell first before they can buy.
Although Everton is interested, they would prioritize Sporting de Palhinha teammate Matheus Nunes.
The La Liga outfit Nos are keen to offer the defensive midfielder a new contract with improved terms and it would take an offer of around 40million euros (£ 34.3million) if they were to consider the allow to leave.
Spurs have reportedly made contact with Sporting to inquire about his availability, but he does not say whether they will seek to follow up on an offer.
Defensive midfielder options at Tottenham certainly need a refresh. Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks are not the ideal partner for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to protect the defense and the pair would benefit from a distance from the N17 this summer to revitalize their respective careers.
