Presets ring in the New Year with new single ‘You Belong’

The Presets kicked off 2022 with their first new song in nearly four years: a lively, club-initiated joint house titled “You Belong.”

It’s a fitting track to ring in the New Year, with upbeat and uplifting feelings sung to a soundscape of smoky, swaying bass, glittering synths, and colorful percussion.

In the pre-chorus of the piece, singer and keyboardist Julian Hamilton sings: “Take a look around / Gather together / Give in to the sound / The time it lasts forever / Say ‘good night’ to heaven / And say ‘Hello, damn yeah’ / Tomorrow will uplift you / To places to which you belong. “

“You Belong” premiered during ABC’s broadcast of the annual New Years Eve fireworks display in Sydney. The duo performed at NYE In The Park in 2021, playing a career-spanning Sydney fan set alongside PNAU, Spacey Jane, What So Not and Illy.

The new track is The Presets’ first original song since June 2018, when the duo released their fourth album, “Hi Viz”. They kept busy in the years that followed, however, with a number of collaborations, solo offerings, and remixes. In November 2019, for example, they joined forces with Golden Features for a four-track EP titled ‘Raka’.

2020 saw the duo remix “Sadder Badder Cooler” by Tove Lo, while drummer / keyboardist Kim Moyes gave their turn to “Trust In Me” by Rinse (and “The Island” by The Lazy Eyes last year). . Moyes also relaunched his solo project for his first two singles since 2008: “Shake Your Brains” in 2019 and “Ghost Town” (with Connie Mitchell) last year.

Hamilton made his own solo debut last year, releasing the single “City Of Love” in August, and the following last month with “Heartbeat Won’t Wait”.

The Presets have a handful of shows just on the horizon, with sets reserved for the very first edition of Queensland, the first Golden Shores festival on the Gold Coast, Liquid Kandy in Perth, Snow Machine in Queenstown and Canberra, Yarra Editions. Valley and Hunter Valley from this year’s Wine Machine.
