Newcastle United are looking to attack Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Harry Winks during the January transfer window.
This is according to The Sun, who claim that the new owners of Newcastle do not foresee a major revolution in the January transfer window.
Rather, it looks like Newcastle will make calculated signings with Premier League experience.
One of the targets is Winks, who could come in to bolster Newcastle’s midfield options.
Joe Willock arrived over the summer, but Newcastle still need more in the near-term midfield and beyond.
The winks would likely be open to a loan transfer in January, but a permanent deal could be costly.
How much would Tottenham want for Winks if Newcastle came to call him?
You would think it wouldn’t be exorbitant. Winks have managed just 61 minutes of Premier League action this season and appear to be far from Tottenham’s pecking order.
The 25-year-old is due to leave Tottenham and start playing again, even though he was just on loan at the start.
Remarkably, Tottenham asked for £ 40million for Winks over the summer according to the Times.
No one was prepared to pay that price, which was ridiculous for a player far from Tottenham’s starting XI.
Newcastle may offer an escape route but would surely seek a discount or just a loan deal rather than a £ 40million swoop.
