Manchester City and Tottenham are said to be in the running for Lucas Paqueta, with the Brazilian midfielder keen to leave Lyon this summer.
According to L’Equipe, Manchester City and Tottenham are leading the race to sign Lucas Paqueta, with the Brazilian midfielder reportedly not interested in joining Newcastle United or Arsenal. Paqueta is keen to leave Lyon this summer after the club failed to qualify for any European competition.
Lucas Paqueta has become a top target for Premier League sides, with up to four clubs vying for his signature. After a fantastic season with Lyon, the Brazil international is one of Jean-Michel Aulas’ prized assets in the current transfer window despite their collective struggles.
The Lyon president left the decision in the hands of the Brazilian, believing that he had become the centerpiece of Peter Bosz’s project, and Paqueta decided to leave Groupama Stadium. He is eager to continue playing in European competitions, which Lyon cannot offer in the coming season.
Arsenal and Newcastle United have shown interest in him, with Aulas quoting them around €65m. The Lyon supremo wanted the realization of a record sale, but the price offered is inaccessible to any interested party.

Arsenal were confident of signing the Brazil international, but the report suggests Paqueta is not interested in joining the north Londoners or Newcastle United. Recent reports have claimed that Lyon have reduced the asking price for Paqueta who could be available for 40 million euros. Manchester City and Tottenham are the latest favorites for his signature, although a move depends first on sales.
Manchester City have reportedly held advanced talks with Lyon over Paqueta, although they may need to offload Bernardo Silva before they think about signing the Brazilian. It complicates things, but anything is possible in the transfer window.
Tottenham are in a similar dilemma as Antonio Conte is interested in securing Paqueta’s services. However, there are plenty of midfielders at Spurs who need to be sold before they can buy another player in that position.
Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks are unwanted names at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A move for Paqueta could be key if Spurs can change those names, although at this stage North London rivals Arsenal are still in the race to sign the Brazilian.
Whether the report that Paqueta is unwilling to join Arsenal is accurate remains to be seen. However, the Gunners are actively considering signing the Lyonnais. They have targets such as Youri Tielemans and Arthur Melo on their roster, but Paqueta might suit Mikel Arteta’s style better.

As things stand, L’Equipe are the only publication so far to make a statement on Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal as far as Paqueta is concerned. However, there could still be a twist to the story as the Brazil international looks destined to leave Lyon in this window.
