Get to know your Syracuse Orange: #51 OL, Anthony Red

Last name: Anthony Red

Position: offensive line

Year: (Red Shirt) Sophomore

Height: 6’5″

Lester: 290

Hometown: Bloomfield, Connecticut

High school: Saint Thomas More

2021 statistics: Played two games against Ohio and Albany.

Forecast 2022: Red had some time early in the season last year. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him work his way into both depths again this season. We’ll see where he evolves under Coach Schmidt, but there was a lot of promise when he signed with the Syracuse Orange.

How did he get here? : He chose Orange over offers from Buffalo, Temple and UMass.

What are the recruitment sites saying? : 3 stars from everyone and a top 15 prospect in Connecticut

Money quote: It holds up well after a big volume in an off-season.

“They were shocked when they heard how much weight I had gained in the offseason,” Red said in a phone interview. “When I told them I was 230 and now I’m 290, they were like, ‘How did you do that?'”

Tweets of wonder: Almost nothing to trigger, but he gave ex-Orange Tyrell Richards some RT action for his first-place finish in the CFL Draft:

Interesting nugget: As a Bloomfield native, we covered the Dwight Freeney connection last year, but St. Thomas More, where he played ball in high school, is a veritable factory of professional athletes, including Quincy Douby, Andre Drummond , Devin Ebanks, Carl Krauser (name given in vain), Damion Lee and many more.
