Other cool local movie events happening in Wichita this weekend:

TALLGRASS CINEMA CENTER

“Marvelous and the Black Hole” Family narrative comedy about a teenage delinquent who befriends a surly magician who helps her navigate her inner demons and dysfunctional family with a sleight of hand.

The short film “The Oath” by local filmmaker Sean Blumenshine will also be screened. $1 from each ticket will go to support this local filmmaker. Tickets for the screenings are $12.

Screening at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Comedian and magician Christian Manahl will perform at 6:30 p.m. The magic show is free.

“Cat Dads” This family documentary feature and favorite of the 2021 Tallgrass Film Festival is a portrait of eight unique men whose lives have been changed by their love for cats. Some of these men will meet the unprecedented challenges of 2020 with the help of their feline friends.

Plays April 24 at 4 p.m., April 29 at 7 p.m. and April 30 at 1 p.m.

Country Cats Inc. and the Wichita Animal Action League are community partners for the film. The concessions tip jar will be given to both organizations at each screening.

Tickets are $12.

Through the stories of two chefs, this event celebrates gastronomy and cinema and will offer the screening of two short films accompanied by two small plates and two signature cocktails.

Culinary pairings will be influenced by themes of traditionalism versus modernism, and will respect the sourcing of local, fresh, seasonal and wild ingredients.
